Steve Beard serves as chairman and chief executive officer of Adtalem Global Education (NYSE: ATGE), a market leader in healthcare education that is actively addressing America's critical healthcare workforce shortage. Expanding access to quality education, Adtalem empowers more than 90,000 students through its five post-secondary institutions: American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Chamberlain University, Ross University School of Medicine, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and Walden University.
Named CEO in 2021 and elected chairman in 2024, Beard has engineered Adtalem's strategic transformation into a healthcare focused education provider, driving operational excellence and accelerating organic growth across the enterprise. As chief operating officer, he architected the company's portfolio repositioning while delivering strong operational performance across both healthcare education and financial services segments.
Before joining Adtalem, Beard served as executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Heidrick & Struggles International (NASDAQ: HSII), where he led the firm's expansion into organizational consulting and culture shaping. His earlier career included corporate and securities law practice at Schiff Hardin & Waite in Chicago, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance for regulated industries. He began his legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Frank Sullivan, Jr. (ret.), associate justice of the Indiana Supreme Court.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Beard earned his juris doctor degree from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University – Bloomington and completed the Advanced Management Program at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
Based in Chicago, Beard lives with his spouse and son, along with their two Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
