Appointed in 2021 as senior vice president, chief customer officer at Adtalem Global Education Inc., Steven Tom is at the forefront of transforming the student journey from enrollment through graduation. His role encompasses partnering with Adtalem’s institutions to optimize the student experience, crafting unique learning offerings, revamping the digital experience through new technology capabilities, forging strategic employer partnerships and leveraging data & analytics to enhance insights and drive value for students, graduates, colleagues and stakeholders. Tom’s leadership harnesses his passion for delivering great customer experiences through innovative technologies, differentiated products and learning offerings, and rich data insights and capabilities.
Before his current role, Tom significantly contributed to Walden University and Laureate Education as chief transformation officer and senior vice president of Student Experience, where he spearheaded digital transformation efforts aimed at enriching customer experience through enhanced personalization, omnichannel engagement and innovation. His leadership was instrumental in advancing student support operations, leading university-wide online course development and bolstering student retention initiatives.
Tom's career also includes a notable tenure at TESSCO Technologies as senior vice president of Analytics, Innovation and Learning, where he was pivotal in launching new business lines and harnessing data analytics for predictive insights and business intelligence, opening new markets and opportunities for revenue growth. As a customer and growth strategy management consultant at Deloitte, he developed and executed growth and product strategies for Fortune 500 clients, and as a technology consultant at KPMG Consulting (BearingPoint), he led IT consulting teams.
Holding an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a bachelor’s degree with majors in information technology and marketing from the University of Maryland, Tom's educational background underpins his strategic and innovative approach to customer experience and technology. Additionally, his commitment to social impact is evident through his service on the boards of the International Youth Foundation, the Public Library of Science and the World Trade Center Institute in Baltimore, showcasing his dedication to leveraging education and technology for global betterment.
