Adtalem Global Education’s medical schools celebrated The Match® 2025 with impressive performances and meeting some of healthcare’s greatest needs.
The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP) calls the 2025 Main Residency Match® the largest in their 73-year history, driven by the 52,000-plus applicants competing for about 43,000 positions. Both figures are record highs for the NRMP.
Among the all-time high number of applicants in The Match, Adtalem’s Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) had impressive performances.
Adtalem’s medical schools have reached a combined 94% first-time residency attainment rate for 2024-2025 graduates as of March 25, 2025.*
That’s over 600 new resident physicians who will be practicing in 26 specialties across 42 states.
More are expected to join them as attainment rates increase over the coming weeks through the NRMP’s Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program.
Breaking Down Key Statistics
Let’s look at a few of the key data points in the initial results from Match Day 2025.
- Addressing the U.S. Primary Care Physician Shortage: The scale at which Adtalem can deliver primary care physicians is critical. Of the nearly 600 new residents from RUSM and AUC, about 64% are going into primary care—the field composed of family medicine, pediatrics and internal medicine. The United States is facing a growing shortage of primary care physicians, a deficit that threatens healthcare access and quality across the country.
- Opportunities for International Medical Graduates: Adtalem’s initial first-time residency attainment rate notably outperforms the rate of other international medical graduates (IMGs) in The Match.
- Strengthening Our Partner Pipeline: Adtalem has over 30 partner hospitals in the United States where RUSM and AUC students complete clinical rotations. Nearly 20% of new residents will practice in programs at these partner sites.
What is Match Day?
The third Friday in March is known as Match Day in the medical community.
On Match Day, fourth-year medical students at U.S. and international medical schools learn the result of the NRMP’s months-long process for determining where the soon-to-be graduates will become residents and extend their medical training as practicing doctors.

*Disclaimer: First-time residency attainment rate is the percent of students attaining a 2025-26 residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2024-25 who were active applicants in the 2025 NRMP match or who attained a residency position outside the NRMP match.
