The U.S. healthcare system is at a critical crossroads. Adtalem’s superior student outcomes and scale are forging a path to progress.
At the heart of our mission at Adtalem is a commitment to high-quality programming that empowers every student from the classroom to clinical practice. Our innovative student and academic success programs are designed to create equitable access to learning and unlock each student’s full potential.
At a time when fields of healthcare across the board are experiencing systemic crises, we are the leading provider of healthcare education in the U.S.
We can do something about it. Together we can make a positive impact.
Answering a National Healthcare Crisis
The Association of American Medical Colleges projects that the physician shortage could reach up to 86,000 over the next decade. In just the last two cycles of The Main Residency Match, combined, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), matched over 1,300 first-time residents to their first roles as practicing resident physicians.
Adtalem's medical schools celebrated The Match® 2025 with impressive performances and meeting some of healthcare’s greatest needs.
The World Health Organization foresees a global shortage of 4.5 million nurses. At Chamberlain University and Walden University, we produce more Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduates than any U.S. institution.
It’s not just human health being impacted. By 2030, another 55,000 veterinarians will be needed to support companion animal healthcare. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine was the top grantor of DVM degrees to the veterinary workforce in 2023 and No. 1 for total graduates securing internship and residency placements in 2025.
Changing these tides is not easy. At a time when access to quality care is more critical than ever, our response must be equally robust and grounded in high-quality programming that empowers future clinicians to answer the call millions of patients need.
High-Quality and Innovative Academic Programs
Dr. Jill Price, chief academic officer at Chamberlain, says: “In today’s fast-evolving healthcare landscape, it’s essential that students not only absorb knowledge but also develop the practical skills, critical thinking and resilience needed in their training to prepare them for their future careers. By integrating interactive learning experiences, cutting-edge technology and real-world clinical training, we ensure that every learner is equipped to transition confidently into practice-ready clinicians.”
Chamberlain’s research-based framework—the Social Determinants of Learning™—is at the heart of this transformation, actively removing barriers to success and building a large pipeline of nursing professionals. Initiatives like the Called-to-Care Scholars program enable qualified students to earn their nursing degree with up to three years of employer-paid tuition and secure up to three years of employment with LCMC Health upon graduation. The Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.™ (PRSF) program funded by the American Nurses Foundation, is designed for third-year BSN students to add 16 weeks of online coursework and an eight-week clinical experience at no additional tuition cost.
Adtalem and the Oncology Nursing Society are giving Chamberlain students a free preview of oncology nursing. Learn all about it in 'Insights on Careers in Oncology Nursing.'
Advancing Technological Capabilities in Student Success Programs
Technology is a driving force in enhancing student success, transforming classrooms into dynamic, interactive learning environments. State-of-the-art simulation labs, virtual reality and AI-driven tools are accessible across our curricula, enabling students to gain hands-on experience that bridges technology with real-world practice.
Earlier this year, Chamberlain expanded a chatbot known as Coach Ally as a resource for student success. As a personalized learning assistant with multilingual capabilities, Coach Ally enhances faculty-led activities while empowering students to take control of their academic journey. Coach Ally can help students stay organized, generate practice study questions, locate resources and more.
For aspiring physicians, the Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP) offers a 15-week preparatory curriculum that tailors academic assessments and study plans to bridge preparation gaps, ensuring students are fully equipped for success upon enrollment at RUSM or AUC.
Over 20 years, MERP has helped more than 4,000 students better prepare for life in medical school, residency, and beyond. See How 15 Extra Weeks of Medical School Makes a Difference.
Students in MERP leverage the latest artificial intelligence technology to better prepare for success in the classroom. Known as Dr. Mateo, a biochemistry chatbot supports student learning. Dr. Mateo summarizes content from the lecture handbook and identifies specific page numbers for students to refer to.
Dr. Jim Hadsell, professor of academic success for MERP, says: “Having the information presented a little differently can increase understanding.”
According to Dr. Hadsell, students have reported that the ethical use of artificial intelligence has been useful in summarizing important course concepts and providing a means of asking students practice or open-ended questions to help determine their mastery of a medical concept.
